i read on tv guide online that there will be a death on episode 10 of the new season. has anyone heard about this or who it might be? i'm still thinking it has to be ashley or toby (or both) because otherwise i don't get why they aren't featured in the opening credits this season.

Darcy got off easy

Two things to say: One, Peter (as if we didn't know this before) is the creepiest, sleaziest, guy in Canada, which is saying something. Two, Darcy got off easy. Even when Emma had that creepy internet guy (remember the first ever Degrassi TNG) it got a whole lot more ugly. She was actually locked in a hotel room with him.

And either Degrassi needs to become a one hour show or we need a spin-off of some kind. Emma, and for that matter the whole Sean storyline, have simply not existed in the last two episodes. And how is Paige doing at college, does she exist anymore? There had better be like 80 more episodes this season.

Wheels vs. Sean - The Mashup

Who misses Wheels from the original series? How come we get so much Joey and Snake but no Wheels? They should bring him back to teach Auto Shop class and have him mentor Sean. Let's face it -- Wheels was the original Sean Cameron... Both of them have parent issues (Wheels' adopted parents were killed and he never kindled healthy relationships with his biological parents), both of them have a thing for cars, neither of them are particularly good at the school thing, they both have anger management issues, and they both kinda raised themselves (a result of the parent issues). Sean seems to have much more luck with the ladies than Wheels ever did.. but all in all, the characters are very similar (Sean is MUCH more well developed character). Sean is having bad luck with the law this season, and someone like Wheels (who killed a kid while driving drunk and also injured Lucy permanently in the accident) could scare him straight (at least help keep him on the right side of the law).

Whaddya think?

Future of Degrassi TNG

I admittedly do not keep up with the rumor mill surrounding DTNG, and I don't live in Canada so everything I hear about the show is at least 6 months old, but I am very interested in the future of Degrassi. With most of the main characters having graduated, and the rest graduating in the current school year, is the show going to end? I noticed that they are introducing new characters like the new spirit squad unwed mom chick (I'm bad with names) and Darcy is in the main credits. JT has recovered from his suicide attempt and is back in the fold...

Does this mean that they are going to try to squeeze another few seasons out of the show or is it time for the fat Canadian lady to sing? I just don't want the show to end up recycling plots ala Dawson's Creek or trying to turn one of the current couples on the show into the next Joey and Kaitlyn.

Furthermore -- can we please put Joey and Kaitlyn back together for good? C'mon! I've been watching Degrassi since Degrassi Junior High was still fresh and Degrassi High was airing new episodes... those two need to get back together and get hitched. If they did it would bring a lot of closure and bring the whole thing full circle.

Do you guys have any ideas on the future of the show? I am really bored with the new(er) characters, so if too many of my faves leave, I can't say I'd stick around to see every episode...

so I just got back from a trip to South America and I caught _Love will tear us apart_ in which Paige and Manny threw down in the hallway. Who were you rooting for? :)

Personally, I've already outed myself as a Manny fan. And as a former high school teacher, I think the relationship between Mr. Oleander and Paige is inappropriate regardless of how genuine it seems. Manny should have decked him.

I don't know if I just missed the episode(s), they weren't aired in the US, or if this happened off-screen--but what is up with the recent references to Manny possibly having had an abortion or been pregnant...Emma said something veiled about this when Manny was shocked about her behavior with Jay, I think. so what do you think is next for spin? Jimmy has kicked him to the curb(with good reason), Paige has moved onto to Mr. O., even Manny won't give him the time of day. I know I've read some spoilers on other forums about his taking revenge on the school with Jay but I'm wondering what you all think.

I used to really like Spinner but he has moments of complete ignorance(turning against Marco at first, his expectation that Paige would put out, etc.).

In defense of Manny

As someone who has worked with high schoolers for the past ten years, I have known many a Manny. On practically every forum, Manny gets raked over the coals. There is such a double standard. I don't see the same sort of negative attitude against Craig or even Jay(responsible for giving Emma an STD as well as worse things as upcoming episodes will reveal). Manny happens to be one of my favorite characters. She is definitely driven by her passions but I feel she has learned from her mistakes. Her recent efforts to rebuild her friendship for Emma deserves props as well as her ability to go to school and keep her head up despite all the trash talk.

er, i mean rick.

i think they've done a pretty good job of this topic. first of all, rick isn't this innocent victim of hazing; not only did he land terri in a coma, but he continued to attend degrassi when (as we found out from his mom) he had ample opportunities to change schools. on the other hand, alex, spinner and jay humiliated him as a sport, they were unrelenting, and treatment like that could really make a person snap. there are no heroes here.

and emma....stupid, stupid emma. she coulda diffused the situation. granted, she's only 16 and not a psychiatric professional, but if she could have shown an iota of the compassion she's had towards the environment or fluffy puppies or whatever... i don't know. yeah, so it was obvious he was into her and she didn't return his feelings, but "your friendship is really important to me, and i don't want to do anything to change it" is worlds apart from "i pity you, i'm nice to you because you're pathetic." god she sucks.

i'm not defending what rick is about to do, i just think they did a good job of showing all the things, from big to little that are leading up to this horrible moment.

in other news, you won't believe who's gonna start giving hummers down in the ravine!

too much sex

I mentioned this more than a few times, but I am not liking the new season too much. I really think there is just way too much emphesis on sex....yes it's what 14 year olds think about, but I find it sad that this awesome concept of a show is being tainted and turning into another 90210. been there, done that. I miss season 1 and episodes like cabaret.

I guess I am just stuck on the fact that show show was created to teach lessons and morals. I am not sure what these new episodes are doing....except probably pushing kids into growing up way too fast.

i tuned in yesterday at 5 to get my degrassi fix, i was eager to see manny get back to boyfriend stealing and just what the hell is going on w/ ashley and craig?

but no. it's a sabrina marathon. okay, fine, it's halloween weekend. i can wait 'til next week. then i see a commercial that november is sabrina marathon month. what the fuck?????!

I HATE THE-N!!!!!!!!

i wish there was some alternative to their crappy programming, lame ass commercials and wonky scheduling suckiness. as a die hard degrassi fan for what, like 25 years now, i'm willing to overlook a lot of bullshit to get my fix, but i'm getting really sick of this. am i going to have to move to canada?

the light at the end of the tunnel is that degrassi comes back november 26, and it's gonna be c-c-c-razy! and to touch back on a previous conversation, looks like spinner finally cuts off that stupid hair. oh, and we FINALLY get to see Heather Sinclair! (she of the awful bangs and overplucked eyebrows).

okay, lots of stuff today...

also, has anyone caught that new show on UPN called 'Veronica Mars?' it's my new favorite thing, and seriously, i think you'll like it, so check it out. i bring it up because during the show they ran a commercial for degrassi on the-n, which totally floored me. looks like they're trying to reach out beyond their cable viewership. pretty cool. more people who watch degrassi means it's more likely we'll get to see the original series hit dvd.

in other news, over at tvtome there's new synopses for a few more episodes for this season, and my sources tell me they are pretty accurate, if you want to check it out...

I'm morbidly curious as to whether any of you harbored crushes on the actors/characters or both! he used to be one of my favorite characters, and now he's really gone to the dark side. it's one thing to run with a new crowd and be mean to your exgirlfriend, but to steal stuff from a man dying with cancer? that's just evil.

i don't know, though, when jay pulled up and was giving emma the business and admitting the thefts, sean kept telling him to back off. whether that was for emma or to save his own ass, i don't know, but i hope he can get his shit together.

they've got him hooking up with ellie soon, so maybe that's a good sign.

A TV show is being blamed after 10 elementary school students committed acts of self-mutilation that included making cuts on their arms with protractors. The students, age 10 to 13, apparently cut themselves with sharp objects over three days in April after watching a character cut herself on Degrassi: The Next Generation, said Jocelyn Blondin, president of the Commission scolaire des Portages de l'Outaouais. Denis Dubois, vice-president of programming at VRAKTV, the CTV show's French-language broadcaster, defended the award-winning series.

and by the way, lots of girls cut, or were cutters, and getting caught busted is embarrassing.

well, after she ends up in the hospital because of Rick, her father decides to send her away to boarding school to get her away from him. From what i've heard, rick turns stalker supremo, which, if true, is a nice update on an issue that wasn't around back in the original degrassi.

A Toronto man lay motionless on the pavement outside a restaurant suffering from a fractured skull and massive brain injuries when former child actor Tyson Talbot stomped on his face, a jury heard yesterday.

Forensic pathologist Dr. David Chiasson was questioned at length about the fatal head injuries Christopher Shelton, 23, suffered after he was attacked outside a restaurant at the intersection of Gerrard St. E. and Broadview Ave. shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 30, 2002.

Some members of Shelton's family dropped their heads and dabbed tears from their eyes as Chiasson detailed how Shelton suffered extensive bruising of the scalp, subdural bleeding of the brain, brain-stem bleeding and a fractured skull.

Talbot, charged with second-degree murder, showed little emotion.

The 32-year-old played the role of child athlete Billy Martin in the early 1980s on the popular TV show The Kids of Degrassi Street. That series evolved into Degrassi Junior High in 1986, and Talbot returned to play another character, Jason Cox, but left the show after three episodes.

Shelton's facial bruising included tread marks from a shoe, but his skull was likely already cracked when the back of his head struck the pavement after he was punched in the face, Chiasson said.

However, the stomp to the head may have extended a crack in his skull, the doctor testified.

"It looks like a single impact," Chiasson said. "I can't exclude another blow to that area overlying it."

The jury heard yesterday how the trauma from the fall to the pavement caused bleeding and swelling to Talbot's brain.

Darryl Sharpe, a friend of Shelton, testified Monday that Talbot "sucker-punched" Shelton, who wasn't able to raise his hand to protect his face or cushion his fall to the pavement.

Two crown witnesses have testified Talbot kicked Shelton in the head less than a minute after the alleged sucker-punch.

He was pronounced dead in St. Michael's Hospital later that day.

Shelton's brain injuries "can be explained by the initial impact (to) the left back of the head. ... They're all attributable to the blunt force head injury," Chiasson said.

The trial continues in Ontario Superior Court.

Boy and I were watching tv... Paused, as only the TiVo generation can, and played some Warcraft. When we finished getting our behinds handed to us by some 14 year old boys, we realized that the TV had unpaused, and the chanel had changed, and we were watching something familiar... Something Canadian and familiar... Dear G*d... Is this Degrassi Jr. High? It was captivating... It made no sense... I couldn't tear myself away from the TV!

20 minutes later, boy is doing laundry... He yells upstairs, "So, is Liberty banging the teacher?"

I never realized old addictions could be rekindled so quickly!
